Quick & Healthy – My favourite food hack

Quick & Healthy - My favourite food hack

Do you want to know my favourite food hack to prepare a quick and healthy meal?

Not sure about you, but aren’t we all super busy these days? I blame the pandemic. After being locked in for so long, there’s still a lot of catching up to do. Since there are only 24 hours in a day, something has to go, which often means sacrificing cooking a healthy meal. Not good.

But there’s a solution – frozen food! It’s my favourite food hack because it allows you to prepare a healthy meal in minutes. Can you see how excited I am?!

My freezer is full of frozen organic vegetables. Most of them are store-bought, but occasionally, I make my own freezer bags by chopping up what I got at the farmer’s market. It’s certainly cheaper, but it requires some time to prepare.

Cooking with them is super easy. Just empty the bag in a frying pan with oil or a saucepan with boiling water and wait until the veggies are thawed. Depending on the size of the pieces, this can take between a few seconds and a couple of minutes. If you use the hot-water method, drain them and serve them with a vinaigrette as a salad. Stit-frying them offers more options. You can add eggs for a scramble, minced meat for a substantial meal, coconut milk for a curry, steam a piece of fish with the lid on (while the vegetables warm up), or eat it as is.

Don’t forget to experiment with spices to add flavour to your dish and if you have any leftover pasta, rice or potatoes, chuck them in as well.

This is how I cook most of the time because – like you – I’m either too busy to spend hours in the kitchen or starving.
