Can Pilates help you lose weight?⁠

I love Pilates and have been doing it for many, many years. It was the first workout that produced noticeable shifts in my body. However, the changes were subtle, and it took consistent training over months and years. Still, it’s one of my faves because you’re not getting overly sweaty, and it helps you look lean and feminine with that desirable posture of a dancer.⁠

Pilates is a bit of a slow burner in building muscle, but it builds overall strength, especially around your core. And who doesn’t want that? ⁠

Focussing on your core is crucial. We’re all sitting more than is good for us, and strengthening your back will help with all sorts of postural issues and prevent injury.⁠

But let’s get back to weight loss and why Pilates is part of my 8-week weight loss programme. I’m all for building muscle but don’t want to look like I want to win a bodybuilder competition. I want to build long, lean muscles that support my posture but don’t bulk me up.⁠

Pilates is great for that and the perfect exercise to do between more rigorous strength-building workouts. It’s slow and gentle, can help reduce stress and improve sleep. Furthermore, it enhances flexibility and body awareness. ⁠

Pilates may not be the obvious choice for weight loss, but it can help long-term.⁠
